FONTANA DELLA NINFA
A rare example of a vertical fountain with four basins, one on top of the other and a top niche containing the statue of Ninfa, designed by Orazio Nigrone (1615). It is the pride and joy of the people of Castelvetrano, and is to remember the completion of the Bigini aqueduct, a great achievement as it gave a water supply to the town. In the fountain, the image of a palm, symbol of the Tagliavia gods is repeated; Today the palm is emblem of the town and is part of the town coat of arms, together with the saying Palmosa civitas castrum vetranum, with clear allusion to Selinunte defined palmosa-with palms in the III verse of Aeneid.
