CHIESA MADRE
Dedicated to Assunta, it was founded through the joining of the fourteenth century Church of Santa Maria with the chapel of Santa Chiara and San Giorgio, assuming between 1520 and 1579 a basilica plan type in the shape of a Latin cross, with a nave and two side aisles and a truss roof. The simplicity of the exterior with a fine medieval style doorway is contrasted with the rich interior decorated by stuccoes by Antonino Ferraro jr. (1658-60) and Gaspare Serpotta (1667-68). It holds interesting works, including the Gagini style statue of the Madonna del Giglio- Madonna of the Lily and the fifteenth century painting on a wooden board of the Madonna della Misericordia - Madonna of Mercy, attributed to the workshop of Riccardo Quartararo.
