The Alleyways and courtyards which characterize the ancient inhabited part of the town are twisted and labyrinth-like, clearly showing the town’s Islamic background. These alleyways were not only simple ways to get from one place to another, until the end of the nineteen fifties, they were also places of community life where families met and discussed everything that today might be discussed in a public square. Each alleyway has its own history and meaning, some refer to popular traditions the alleys of Proverbi (proverbs) and Origini (Origins), others to the Social classes or the Festa del Crocefisso (Celebration of the Crucifix). A walk through these alleyways is a moving experience which puts one in contact with the history and traditions of the town.
