BAGLIO WOODHOUSE

Woodhouse baglio

The baglio (rural fortified structure) was built in 1813 by John Woodhouse, an English trader who discovered the Marsala wine and exported it all over the world. In the ancient structures of this baglio inglese - English baglio, called by the locals u bagghiu gnisi, the great Soleras 1815 and Waterloo 1815 were produced. Today only a few original elements, some frescoes depicting vine leaves on the higher floor and the entrance gateway remain to testify the splendour of this building. The gateway of the baglio has been used as the emblem of the Petrosino town council.
