AREA ARCHEOLOGICA MOKARTA
On Mokarta hill, a few kilometres from Salemi, there are the remains of a village dating back to the XII and X century B.C., with circular huts and two-way entrance, unique of their kind often next to quadrangular non communicating rooms. Surrounded with walls, they probably has a roof made out of branches and mud. The destruction of the village was probably caused by an attack followed by a fire as indicated by some burnt remains
About sixty dome shaped tombs, from the early bronze age containing a funerary furnishings made up of various pieces of crockery are also to be found here.
