Marsala

Church and Complex di San Pietro

The ancient Lilibeo is one of the most important municipalities of the province of Trapani both for the richness of its cultural patrimony and its extension and economic importance. It is a lively and vital city which holds numerous archaeological areas, churches and buildings in a historic centre which shows the various dominations (Punics, Romans, Arabs, Normans). It is here that Garibaldi landed with his Thousand, moving towards the Unity of Italy. But Marsala is known above all for its wine of the same name which has made the city famous all over the world and which an be tasted in the numerous wine cellars open to the public. Its territory includes the Stagnone Islands Oriented Nature Reserve in which Mozia is of particular interest, an ancient city of the Phoenicians which holds, in a small number of hectares, a natural and historical-archaeological patrimony which is unique to the world.
