QUARTIERE MILITARE SPAGNOLO
The military quarter was built between 1576 and 1577, inside the walled city, for the Spanish troops either passing through or based there to protect the city. The massive building, with walls with visible square ashlars, has a rigorously symmetrical facade with architraved windows, a rounded entrance arch and a architraved gateway. To emphasise the horizontality a long and elegant entablature runs along it completed with battlements which give the building a touch of the medieval. A tunnel links via Garibaldi with the large atrium onto which the internal rooms, which have housed the Town Council offices since 1865, open
