PORTA GARIBALDI
The ex Porta del Mare – Sea Gate was one of the four urban gates which opened along the sixteenth century surrounding wall. It has always signalled the entrance to the city from the sea. It was reconstructed in 1685, and it looks like a Roman Triumphal Arch, flanked by rusticated columns. Today it is named Porta Garibaldi in memory of the famous landing of the ’eroe dei due mondi-hero of two worlds which took place on the 11 May 1860.
