CHIANU PARRINI

“Chianu” Parrini

Chianu Parrini is a typical example of a small village founded in the XIX century, a time in which the people of Marsala started to live permanently in the Petrosino territory, building houses in their fields as it was too tiring and expensive to transport the grapes to the city. Thus the first  bagliotti were built which during that century were enlarged to become what are now known as chiani, housing for a number of related families. Inside these structures there was usually a small votive  aedicule called a  fiuredda, containing the image of a saint to which the chiano was dedicated.
