BAGLIO MARCHESE

The eighteenth century  baglio (rural fortified structure)  was the summer home of the marquis D'Anna di Marsala. Left for a long time in a state of complete abandonment, not only has it been subject to neglect and the inevitable erosion over time,  but also, little remains of the original structure. Originally on the ground floor were the rooms used for the workers, the stables for the animals and the storerooms for agricultural products. The high level, however was used as the seasonal accommodation of the owner. The three corner watchtowers, are of interest, being unique elements of  their type.
The baglio is now home to a ceramics company which produces craftwork objects taking inspiration from the Sicilian secular culture; one part is used to hold cultural and artistic events. There is also a professional school for ceramicists and  decorators.
