CHURCH OF THE JESUITS

Church and College of the Jesuits

Planned by the architect Natale Masuccio of Messina in 1614, it is among the most significant Baroque style monuments of the city. The interior with a nave and two aisles is richly decorated with “Mischi” marble following the design of the Baroque style churches of Palermo. The vault is beautified with plaster, the work of Bartolomeo Sanseverino, follower of the renowned Giacomo Serpotta (18th century). On the main altar there is an icon representing the Immaculate Conception by Ignazio Marabitti (1711). The façade displays a clear example of transition between Mannerism and Baroque style.
